Bombay Beach

This particular location was so striking to me because of how the dead yellow branches broke into the rich blue sky creating a bold color contrast. I was also interested in the challenge of making a painting out of a bleak subject. The painting size is 30” x 36” and I completed about seventy-five percent on location over the course of multiple days. At a particular point the extreme heat and bright sunlight won out and I ended up putting the incomplete painting aside for several years. Recently, I found a few snapshots of the location and decided to try to complete it. My hope is to exhibit a series of these work that depict the fragile state of the ever changing and strangely beautiful Salton Sea.
