These two charcoal drawings were completed entirely on location at a river flood channel in Long Beach. One of my artistic interests is attempting to reveal the unique visual characteristics and poetic beauty in places that are easily overlooked. Vast open spaces are particularly scarce in dense urban environments and because of this seem to take on greater importance visually. Both of these drawings are made in the exact same location, one done in the morning looking northeast and another in the afternoon looking southwest. They took several weeks to complete and are approximately four feet wide.
